In summer, the skin is exposed to stronger ultraviolet radiation, heat, sweat, air conditioning, salt water and chlorine. These factors can cause dehydration, irritation, sunburn, uneven pigmentation and premature skin ageing.
The most important step is daily use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Apply it generously to all exposed areas before going outdoors and reapply every two hours, as well as after swimming, heavy sweating or towel-drying. Sunscreen should be combined with shade, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and lightweight protective clothing.
Summer cleansing should remain gentle. Avoid harsh scrubs and excessive exfoliation, especially when using acids or retinoids. Choose a lightweight moisturiser that supports the skin barrier; oily and acne-prone skin usually benefits from non-comedogenic gel or fluid textures.
Consistent summer skin care helps prevent sunburn, dark spots and photoageing while reducing cumulative UV damage. If a sunburn is severe, painful or accompanied by blisters, medical advice may be necessary.
